Flag team picked and ready for action
With weeks of brutal conditioning and long, hardcore tryouts, the 2011 junior varsity and varsity flag football teams have been chosen.
Last year, JV had a straight winning season with no losses. Varsity, on the other hand, had a straight losing season.
“I believe varsity has a very good chance of winning games this year because I don’t think any other teams will match our speed”, said both JV and varsity coach Gi Sung.
Also last year, only juniors and seniors could make varsity. This year, coaches tried to form the best possible team, so they allowed freshman and sophomores to make it too.
“At tryouts, there were a lot of girls with speed and it was a hard decision to pick teams”, Sung said.
There are a total of 22 girls on varsity and 21 on JV. At practices, JV will be practicing receiving plays and varsity will mainly be working on deep plays.
The teams have at least two weeks of working on flag pulling, intercepting, throwing, and receiving before their first game which is on March 15th against rivals East Lake High School at Palm Harbor University High School.
