It takes two to win the girls’ soccer regional semi-finals

Two sets of Hurricanes faced off Jan. 28, and when the dust settled, two sisters reigned supreme, bringing in a 2-0 win for Palm Harbor’s varsity girls’ soccer team  in the 5A regional semi-finals against Manatee.

Kayla and Alexis Mouton, junior and senior respectively, live for the sport. Playing competitively year-round on school and club soccer teams, they developed a bond that showed – especially in the second half of the regional semi-finals, when they scored consecutive goals after a scoreless first half.

One of those marked Alexis’ tenth goal in the last five matches.

“I just know what [Kayla’s] going to do before she even does it. I know how she works and where she’s going,” Alexis Mouton said.

Both girls have committed to Alabama, where they will once again hit the field together to play the sport they love.

The win against Manatee put the Canes back in the regional finals for the first time in three years – the last time being when they won the State Championship in 2010.

Since George Jenkins beat Newsome earlier this month, the Canes will host the 5A regional finals this Friday at 7 p.m.

“We made it this far, so we can keep going,” Alexis Mouton said. “Expect a win.”
