Baseball is back

-Baseball players run on the football practice field to get ready for the spring baseball season.

Just heading into the winter season and baseball players are already hitting the field and getting ready to steal a base. Two – Four times a week everyone who wants a chance at wearing the Canes jersey is conditioning with Coach Hilbert. During conditioning athletes are required to sometime run until they puke.

The importance of conditioning for baseball is striving for that seventh inning each game. When the player is sitting out in the hot sun running after baseball it takes a lot not to get tired, especially those who sit in the pitcher or catcher position.

Although, conditioning is supposed to be for baseball players, other sports players are attending the baseball workouts because of the difficulty involved in baseball conditioning.

“This is harder than football workout and conditioning,” Said Mac Grant a sophomore this year and played on the JV team.

All of the hard work pays off for the athletes on the baseball team. Last year there were 12 D1 commits to different colleges, so obviously college coaches respect the hustle Coach Hilbert enforces.

Baseball tryouts will be in the middle of Jan., but until then players will continue to bust their butts daily for their best chance at making the team.
