On Sunday, February 7th, over 114.4 million people will tune in to CBS to watch the NFL’s Super Bowl 50. The Carolina Panthers will go against the Denver Broncos in the biggest game in sports. The 50th edition of this historic and storied game may prove to be the greatest game of football history. Just look at the differences between teams.

The Panthers are the best offense in the league, averaging 31.2 points per game. The Broncos are the best defense in the league, only allowing 18.5 points per game. What the Broncos are especially good at is stopping passes, only allowing a league’s best 200 yards per game, but the Panthers are stacked with great receivers like Ted Ginn, Corey Brown, and Greg Olsen. This powerhouse of receivers is led by Cam Newton, arguably, the best quarterback in league.

The Panthers are great at passing, and the Broncos are phenomenal at stopping passes. However when the script is flipped and it’s the Broncos offense against the Panthers defense, there’s give on the Broncos side. The Broncos are rather weak on offense only ranking nine-tenth in the league while the Panthers defense is at sixth. But, the Broncos are being led by 17 year veteran and, future Hall of Famer, Peyton Manning. A major part of this game will be the quarterback matchup. Newton against Manning. New against Old. Future against Past.

Peyton Manning. This man is known as, easily, a top 10 quarterback ever. He holds the record for most passing yards and most passing touchdowns in a season. He has more passing yards and passing touchdowns than anyone ever has in the NFL. In the postseason he has thrown for the fourth most touchdowns. He has five regular season MVP’s and a super bowl ring. He is the most experienced quarterback in the league, and still one of the most talented at age 39.

Cam Newton. He’s called Superman. He’s called the quarterback of the future. In his first two starts in the NFL he threw for over 400 yards each. He was the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for 30 touchdowns and run for 10.In his rookie season he ran for 14 touchdowns, also an NFL record for quarterbacks. He finished seventh this season for passing yards per attempt and tied for second most passing touchdowns this season. All in all he’s an athletic freak and knows how to breakdown a defense. However, he’s never been in a super bowl. His lack of experience could prove to be his fall to a very good defense.

My prediction, the Denver Broncos will win over the Carolina Panthers 28-24. Peyton Manning picks apart a tired and inexperienced defense and ends his historic career with his second super bowl win. Cam Newton does extremely well but an interception against a superior defense late in the game allows the Broncos to set up a drive to score. Manning wins Super Bowl MVP. Even though Manning wins, in a way he’s still passing down the torch to Newton to carry for the rest of his career. Regardless of the final score, the stage is set for the game of the century.
