Basketball season closing

As the basketball season comes to a close, the boys basketball team is on a roll. The team has won four of its last five games beating Dunedin, Dixie Hollins twice, and Clearwater on Senior Night.

The Canes started the season on fire too winning three games in a row. The Canes then went on a rough patch in the middle of the season with a record of 6-12. The team battled injuries, illnesses, suspensions, and transfers. The team ended their regular season with a record of 11-12.

With a district record of 3-7 the Canes are the 5th seed in their district tournament.  On Tuesday, the team will face off against rival East Lake in the first round of the tournament. The teams split the regular season 1-1, both games the home team won.

“I think we have a good chance at making a run in districts,” said Junior forward Gage Bauer. “We have either beat or come close to beating all the teams in our district.”

Head coach Mark Carter gained his 100th career win as a varsity head coach last week in a 75-50 win against Dunedin. He now sits at 102 wins after beating Clearwater and Dixie Hollins as well.

The Canes have not made the state playoffs since the 2013-14 season, and it looks like that could change this year.
