National signing day is a huge event for colleges and high schools alike. It’s when high school players make the big leap to the college game.

It’s a big honor to be given given a full ride to any university especially at a division one school. Right here in Palm Harbor is a division one signee to the University of Ohio named Samson Jackson.

Samson Jackson is a six foot four, 248 pound offensive tackle and is going up to Athens, Ohio to play with the Bobcats this upcoming fall. Jackson received offers from Ohio, Troy, Florida International and Southern Mississippi, which are all division one schools.

“The coaches stayed in contact since spring and I get to study nursing at the school of nursing they have there,” said Jackson

Ohio is a school in the Midwestern Athletic Conference (MAC) there head coach is former Nebraska head coach Frank Solich. Samson will try to lead the bobcats to a new year’s six bowl.

Jackson made a big impact on the canes this season leading PHU to a 7-3 season.

“All credit goes to my coaches since sophomore year. I don’t know where I would be [without them],” Jackson said.

When college football starts up again next fall we get to watch a Palm Harbor alumni play with the big boys of Division 1 athletics.
