AAU basketball

AAU basketball is very competitive and gives you a chance to play with good players in your area, make friends, and play basketball competitively.

It is very different playing with your friends at the park with nobody watching and having people in the stands watching. Also, most of the time when you’re playing with your friends you aren’t actually trying or playing very competitively.

You also need to remember plays on offense, defense, and on the in-bounds pass. Every player needs to remember what they have to do and what their teammates are going to do. If you don’t get something right, argue with your teammates, or argue with the coach, the coach will most likely sit you on the bench for a little while.

One thing most teams are focused on a lot is that they are a team and should have each others backs. Teams should be like a family and know what their teammates are going to do before they do it. If you are planning on joining a team, be ready to commit and for your teammates to become some of your best friends.

Communication is very important when you’re on the court. On defense, you need to call out things to your teammates like players cutting, shooting, or a mismatch. On offense, you need to call for double teams, screens, or the ball.

Cooperation is very important with any kind of team on the basketball court. Power Forwards need to cooperate with the guards and small forward to set screens, get rebounds, and spread the floor. They need to also cooperate with the center on defense to switch to the middle if he guards a shooter or vice versa.

As a guard, you need to cooperate with the other guard to call plays, tell them to cut, or shoot. You need to cooperate with the big men (Center and Power Forward) to set screens, post up, or spread the floor.

As you can see, there are many responsibilities when playing with a school or AAU team. Some of these things are included when playing recreationally with friends.
