MLB is back

Baseball is back. America’s favorite pastime will be back on April 2nd. Last year, the Chicago Cubs won the pennant and ended the 108 year World Series drought.

Now a new run for the pennant begins. The Cubs and the Indians (the two teams who faced off in the World Series last year) are the two favorites to win it this year. But the MLB is a long season full of surprises and any team could  win the pennant.

The baseball season has 162 games and consists of a lot of trades. The baseball team you see now could be completely different by the end of the year. Also, teams can face devastating injuries.

The local Tampa Bay Rays were given a 60-1 chance to win the world series before the season started by ESPN.com. The Rays are off to a fairly good start and look to push the momentum down throughout the season. The Rays look to get a better season out of superstar pitcher Chris Archer who had a rough 2016.

“I believe the Rays will take the pennant this year because of their great pitching,” said Sophomore Nick Espaillat.

Many of the players who had great seasons last year look to continue their great performance into this year. Mark Trumbo hit 47 home runs and would definitely like to remain on top. Kyle Hendricks had a great season last year and would like to remain on top of the pitching list.

This season is bound to be not just be good, but great. As the pros go back to work, we can sit back and enjoy what the 2017 season of baseball has to offer.
