The PHUHS boys golf team started their season off strong Monday, August 21, at the Tarpon Springs Golf Course. The team competed against Osceola and Northeast High Schools.

PHU posted a score of 153 while Osceola had 180 points, and Northeast 181.

Last year the Canes finished the regular season 15-0. The team also was the district and PCAC champs. They were able to qualify for regionals. The team is looking to improve on that great season and reach even more success this season.

“Our goals this year are just like any other team, to make it to states and take that title,” said senior Lertchai Saengfah.

While being a part of any team is tough, with daily practices, traveling for games or matches, staying in shape, the members of the golf program enjoy everything about it. There is always tons of excitement circling the team from the players, coaches, family members, and friends.

“My favorite thing about the golf team is being around other people, not just my teammates but my opponents,” said Saengfah. “I’m really going to miss the feeling of playing high school golf and in tournaments with these guys.”

The team’s next match will be at the Outback Invitational on Saturday, August 26. PHU Golf will also host an event at Tarpon Springs Golf Course. They will be matched up with Pinellas Park and St. Petersburg.

This is bound to be an eventful season for the Canes, history is looking to be made this year, so keep your on eye on this exciting team.
