Newsome was the first district playoff game and PHU has been struggling to hit the ball up until districts. Then they played Newsome, in which they put 12 runs up on the board. PHU is looking forward to the rest of the district playoff and hoping to make it very far.

After the Newsome game the team came back down to Earth to play Alonso, in which they won 3-2 for the district championship. They now are preparing for the many challenges ahead of them if they want to win it all.

“It feels awesome to be a district champ, our team has always known we had potential. Just watching how the game and how everyone was playing, was an experience no one will forget. When we scored the three runs off of Tanner’s hit, the dugout lit up, we were jumping around giving each other high fives, and it was extraordinary how loud the dugout got. Which is when we got another district championship to our school,” junior Tommy Payton said.

Even though the baseball team were achieving their goals, there were still obstacles to overcome.

“We were originally struggling with hitting and the team was just trying to do too much, instead of looking for accuracy for hitting the ball to the outside field, some teammates only cared about hitting home runs. I have helped this team out for two years being a closer and I can tell you this team has gone far, but the regular season record was rough. The whole reason why we beat Newsome in the first place is because we pulled together as a team, I mean we had to because we knew if we lost then the season would be over,” senior Toby Fritz said.

Central had the same fate as Newsome losing to the Canes 12-2 sending the Canes to regional’s, extending their season for at least one more game.

So, let’s rally behind the boys and keep the momentum going so PHU can get the W.
