We have all anticipated the wait on who our next star athlete will be and are glad to announce that the fall season will end with a wonderful shoutout to the lady canes golfers. One caught the girls coach, Parisi, off guard with her performance and skill. Catalina Harvey (24′) is this month’s chosen star athlete with incredible talent and passion for the sport. She has shown well above and beyond any of the other golfers in the district. Harvey also has just accepted an offer to FIU and is in the IB program here at Palm Harbor. She works hard on her education and sports at the same time. This is Harveys 4th year playing on the golf team and 4th year going to the state championship. Coach Parisi says “She just won the regional championship by 8 strokes, which is pretty phenomenal, and has a really good chance of actually winning the state which is a 2-day tournament, and she finished 8th last year.” Harvey shows a lot of good skills on the course and is going to continue to pursue this sport at college. Coach Parisi explains what it takes to be a pro golfer and what Catalina does to stay in line. “It’s year-round, seven days a week, and our number one golfer spends about seven hours a day over the summer when she was available. She would spend forty-five minutes putting, another hour and a half on the range, and then another forty-five minutes chipping and then she’d go play 9 holes, every day.” This sounds like some tough commitment especially when you have a load of schoolwork pouring in. This is exactly why we have chosen Catalina Harvey as Novembers star athlete of the month. She dedicates every minute to school and her sport.
