Joining a club in high school is a fantastic idea for many reasons. Clubs
give an opportunity for every student to make new friends who share their interests. Whether
you are into sports, music, debate, or any other activity, there’s likely a club for it at PHUHS.
Clubs allow you to explore your passions and hobbies in an enjoyable way. They provide a
platform for you to learn and grow while doing something you love. Out of all the amazing clubs at PHUHS HOSA is one of the best!
Jacey Ghaly, (24’) head Parliamentarian and recorder, talks about the mission, goals, and purpose of HOSA. “HOSA stands for Health Occupations students of America. HOSA is a global, student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services and several federal and state agencies. HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience. HOSA actively promotes career opportunities in the health industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA’s goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to affiliate and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, middle school, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions.”
Whether you’re interested in becoming a doctor, nurse, or any other healthcare professional, HOSA can be a steppingstone in your journey toward career in the medical field. HOSA at PHUHS has won
multiple awards and competed at state and national. As Ghaly 24’ says, “I have won Medical
assisting and I got first place, and I got the Barbra James award because I have more than 300
volunteer hours. I got the gold award which again is the highest.” Lastly clubs like HOSA can
boost your chances of getting into college. Colleges like to see that you’re active and passionate
about something other than just your grades. So, clubs help you show that you’re not just a good
student but also a well-rounded person, something colleges really like. Ghaly 24’ states, “It
effects how college sees you by if you are so entering the medical profession at such a young age
college will begin to view you as a professional with experience in that field that not everyone
has. It makes you look like you are putting your foot in the door which opens a lot more
opportunities for you.” Being part of a club can boost your college applications, passion
dedication, teamwork, and leadership skills
